What does a fox say?
Donned with fox ears, face paints and body suits, the Norwegian duo Ylvis have created a hilarious international music video sensation with their song entitled ‘The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)’
The song has been such a huge success that it has climbed to number 6 in the Billboard’s Hot 100 and is currently the highest ranking song by a Norwegian artist since the number 1 hit ‘Take on Me’ by A-ha in 1985.
The catchiness and utter randomness of the song has been compared to that of PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ and the track – originally intended for their Norwegian audience only – has become a colossal success with over 110 million hits on YouTube already.
In an interview with the Norwegian duo, Vergard said the idea for ‘The Fox’ had been conceived through pointless conversation but had ‘stuck’ in their minds for a while. After deciding to abandon the idea, it was only until September 2013 that the duo began entertaining the notion again after calling in a favour from a production company in New York City.
The duo said they were ‘shocked’ by the popularity of the song and said ‘it was only supposed to entertain a few Norwegians for three minutes – and that’s all’.
But despite their shock, Ylvis have now been signed by Warner Music and have undertaken plenty of live performances since the songs release.
So, what does the fox say then?
Well, the duo agreed that the song offers as many sounds as possible, adding; ‘We covered the whole spectrum’.
And yes, they most certainly did!
